Friday, 21st June - Orient to home
First day that we have awoken in the Finca Son Palou hotel to overcast skies. Fitting, then, as we were on our way home to Blighty!
Last breakfast in this fabulous hotel, then the last remnants of packing. Settled the (largish) bill and loaded up the car. Off we set to Palma airport, which was remarkably uneventful. Even finding the place to drop the car off was a breeze, helped by a very jovial Spaniard who took the mick out of my English accent ("Splendid!" he said as we closed the contract on the car). The weather had improved markedly by now.
I had at least prepaid our hold baggage for the journey back, so there was no repetition of the chaos at Gatwick on the way out. Checked our bags in with no trouble and through Security with no trouble. Am I finally getting better at this??
Bought some duty-free (gin, obviously, and my new found love, limoncello), found a bar and settled down for a longish wait. Eventually the call came and off we trooped - only to be kept waiting for over an hour without any explanation. I hadn't managed to book extra legroom seats for the return journey, so I was hemmed in a bit, albeit in a window seat. The pilot explained over the intercom that there had been a minor technical problem (?) which caused the delay, but everything was OK now. Thank God for that.....
The plane eventually took off and, I have to say, it was one of the smoothest flights I've experienced, although there was a helluva lot of noise from various babies and young kids. WHY bother with such young children?? They'll never remember the trip and they are just so difficult to control.
Couple of pics from the plane:
Landed at Gatwick 40 minutes behind schedule, got our bags, got on the shuttle to the South Terminal and eventually boarded a fast train which dropped us off at Flitwick at around 8.30 p.m. Taxi got us home by 9 p.m., pretty knackered, but the house was still standing...
So - that's that for our first ever trip to Majorca. We've thoroughly enjoyed it and I think I'd like to go back again at some stage.
Last post will be a brief summary of the trip.
