Thursday, 13th June - Peguera

Reasonably decent night's kip, although once again there was noise from next door earlyish. Soundproofing leaves something to be desired......

Another leisurely breakfast, but neither of us could eat much after last night's blowout. However, the MC at breakfast invited us to participate in a boat trip from Peguera westbound towards Port Andratx, departing at around 6 p.m. this evening. It was FREE. Yes, really. A buffet snack meal and drinks were included. Yes, really. I was a bit suspicious of the ulterior motive, but we signed up.

Even though we are on our third day here, we hadn't really looked around the hotel properly. We therefore decided to put that to rights, and it really is a super hotel:

There was even a library, which looked the part, apart from a really rather bizarre and irreverent picture on the wall:

Weird, jarring and amusing at the same time.

Some local wildlife with aaaaaahhhhh factor:

So far, this has all the makings of a nice, lazy day. The bar area is deserted, much to my astonishment:

Could be here for a while, then......

We were. Pretty much all afternoon. Nice. Lovely, lazy time in the sun.

Went down to the cafe bar for a late afternoon meal and then gathered in the reception area for this boat trip. We were led down to the embarkation point and off we went. I was puzzled as to why the hotel was offering this cruise, but it must have some commercial advantage for them.

Anyway, it was all very pleasant. One might have expected the boat to have been rammed, as it was a free trip, but no. Loads of space. Comments in Spanish, German and rather poor English accompanied the journey.

Apart from the obvious touristic development, I was struck by the geology of the coastline:

Our hotel from the sea

We moored offshore at a place called Camp de Mar and were "treated" to some nibbles and some rather poor quality Cava (the Spanish equivalent of Prosecco). However, the atmosphere was jovial and it was all rather fun, aided by a guitarist/vocalist and an accompanying crew member playing some sort of split stick which made a castanet sort of noise. Amateurish, but cheered by all and sundry nevertheless.

Still have no idea why the hotel put this on, but hey.....

Returned to the hotel and also returned to the bar area that we had left earlier. Bit more lively this time, as we had a live(ish) girl group (The Jivettes, forsooth) doing late 50s and early 60s rock'n'roll/pop songs over a backing track. Sounds horrendous, but they were actually remarkably good. Excellent vocals and, of course, meat and drink to me.

Back to the room for another earlyish night with a vague idea that we might actually have a bit of a drive around tomorrow. We'll see.....
